• Notifying families in the event of a positive COVID case

Posted by Avondale ESD on 10/16/2020

As we shift into our new model, we want to ensure each of you know we will continue with our mitigation strategies to minimize risks and will keep our AESD community up-to-date on practices.

The health and safety of our entire community is our first priority. As the pandemic continues to impact us, we want to share with you the steps that will be taken when a confirmed positive COVID case is reported in a facility.

In the case of  a confirmed positive COVID case, the affected class cohort of children and staff will be notified via bright yellow paper in the backpacks of the classroom where the case has been confirmed.

In the event that there are two or more confirmed positive cases that are defined as unrelated in the facility, the entire site will be notified. Please see below the explanation of this scenario. In this case, a notice will be on neon green in the backpacks of all students. If the following three do not apply, only the class cohort will be notified.

Two or more students or staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 within a 14-day period; and

    • Could have had some close contact such as in a classroom or on a school sports team;
    • Do not live in the same household; and
    • Were not identified as close contacts of each other in another setting during a public health case investigation (e.g. friends who play together in each other’s homes).

In both cases, a text message will be sent to parents to check your child’s backpack.

Further, we want to reassure our commitment to our sanitizing protocols to further support the health and wellness of our community. Please reference our mitigation strategies that detail our daily protocols for sanitizing all areas.

  • AESD Metrics

Posted by Avondale ESD on 9/2/2020

Last evening our governing board approved our reopening process to start in-person instruction for families who selected this model. Our area has not currently met the benchmarks to allow reopening, however we wanted to ensure our families have this information to assist in planning for the transition. Please click on the link to our website to see the plan and how the metrics are measured.

In working with the guidelines set forth from the AZDHS, the metrics indicate that we have not met the benchmarks as of now. We will closely monitor the metrics weekly.

Avondale Elementary School District will not resume in-person classes on August 17th. All students will continue learning remotely. Please monitor your emails for any further updates.

  • Classes Start August 3

Posted by Avondale ESD on 7/13/2020

The school year starts on Monday, August 3, 2020. All students will start with their choice of model. However, students who chose in-person instruction will start the year in the flex model. This will continue until the Governor’s Executive Order is lifted and schools are able to offer in-person instruction.

Once the Governor's Executive Order is lifted, we will start with in-person for families who selected that option. For students who chose flex and Digital Academy, they will continue in this model.

    June 24, 2020

Last night, the AESD Governing Board was presented with three different learning options for students when schools reopen: hybrid/flexible learning, online and full in-person.

We understand that each family has a different level of comfort and each student has different learning needs. Therefore, we understand and are working on different approaches to meet our families’ needs in order to ensure a successful school year for all. With the additional learning options, our families will choose which model is best for each of their students.

There are numerous logistics with the reopening of schools- our subgroups are hard at work to welcome students back this fall.

A special governing board meeting will be held in early July to finalize the re-opening plans. We thank you for your responses to our previous survey. Once the final decisions are made, we will be sending a new survey out to ask families to select their model for each of their children.  Please continue to monitor your emails for further communication.

We look forward to working with you and our staff to find solutions for our incredible AESD family! We look forward to the new year and new opportunities to serve you.
