1. When does the 2020-2021 school year start?
The school year starts on Monday, August 3, 2020. All students will start with their choice of model. However, students who chose in-person instruction will start the year in the flex model. This will continue until the Governor’s Executive Order is lifted and schools are able to offer in-person instruction.
Once the Governor's Executive Order is lifted, we will start with in-person for families who selected that option. For students who chose Flex and Digital Academy, they will continue in those models. See question 4 about switching in between models.
3. When is the deadline to commit to an instructional model?
All families need to commit to an instructional model of their choice by July 15, 2020. Click here to submit your response.

4. When can my student switch out of the choice I selected?
Digital Academy is designed to be a one-year commitment.
Flex and in-person models, because they are very similar, are able to switch at the end of quarters.
5. Why am I not receiving text/email notifications?
All AESD families are enrolled to receive all our email and text notifications. Please check your spam folder as our email addresses have changed since July 1. Our new email address will come from @chooseAESD.org.
6. How can I update my contact information?
To ensure your phone number/email are up-to-date or to add additional contact info, you may do so online via ParentVue.
Our school offices will reopen Monday, July 20 and can assist you with any further questions.
7. Does my child automatically get enrolled into the model after submitting my response?
Once all responses have been submitted, classes and staff assignments will occur. You will receive an email confirmation regarding your instructional model.
8. Will meals still be available if I choose flex or digital academy?
Yes, meals will still be available for all students - regardless of instruction model. Please click here for the complete details and to register for picking up meals.
9. If I choose the flex or Digital Academy, will I be given a ChromeBook?
Every student in the district will have a device assigned to them. If you prefer to use a device from home, you may choose to do so. More information will be provided in regards to distribution of technology equipment.
10.What happens if I do not have access to the internet?
AESD is working on having hot spot locations for families in need. Please click here to report a need for internet access.
11. Are students required to wear face masks in school?
All students, except for those with special health needs, will be required to wear masks or face coverings, particularly when moving around the campus. Avondale ESD will communicate proper methods on how to wear, sanitize and properly maintain cloth face coverings to parents and guardians.
For transportation: all drivers shall wear masks or face coverings during routes. Whenever feasible, students shall wear masks or face coverings as well.
Exceptions on a case by case basis for feasibility. Note: that this provision is contingent on feasibility. Cloth face coverings should not be worn by a student who has troubling breathing, students younger than 2 years old, or students with disabilities or other health conditions.
